Inflation in Buenos Aires Reaches 2.7%

Inflation in Buenos Aires accelerated and reached 2.7%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points compared to 2.4% in November, according to the city's statistical institute. This way, the year 2025 closed with a 31.8% increase in the cost of living. Although the price variation seems limited, analysts are keeping a close eye on the upward trend seen in recent months. One of the sectors with the greatest impact that contributed to this rise was transportation, which increased by 5.5% due to adjustments in the prices of fuels and lubricants for household vehicles and in the value of the urban bus ticket. Next in importance were increases in the prices of automobiles and airfares. Food and beverages averaged an increase of 2.4%. Within this division, the main push came from meat and derivatives (7.4%). This was followed by bread and cereals (2.0%) and Fruits (3.7%). In the opposite direction, the drop in Vegetables, tubers, and legumes (-5.9%) helped to relieve pressure on this division. Housing costs rose 2.1% due to adjustments in rental values and common household expenses. Meanwhile, health spending showed an increase of 2.5%, due to rising prices for medicines and prepaid plan fees. With fierce competition from imports, clothing recorded a 1.2% increase, well below the average. In turn, the education sector rose 2.6%, driven by updates at private schools. Although with less impact on the general index and the wallets of Porteños, banking costs rose 4.5%. Restaurants and hotels also hit hard with a 4.3% increase. Additionally, due to the opening of imports, home equipment items showed a 1.6% advance, below the average.
